A 15-year-old Waimänalo youth was killed early this morning when his moped was struck by a sports utility vehicle on Kalanianaçole Highway near the Waimänalo Town Center.

The driver of the SUV, a 47-year-old Waimänalo man, was arrested on suspicion of negligent homicide, police said.
According to Honolulu Police Department's Vehicular Homicide Section, the moped was traveling east on the shoulder of the westbound side of the highway when it was struck by the SUV, which was turning right into the shopping center.
The rider was taken to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police said alcohol was a factor for the driver of the SUV and speed was a probable factor for the moped rider.
The Honolulu medical examiner's office identified the moped rider as Junior Ilae.
