Police search for driver in fatal accident on Moanalua Freeway

Advertiser Staff

Police today are looking for the driver of a pickup truck who left the scene of a fatal accident on Moanalua Freeway near Kalihi.

A white 1993 Nissan pickup truck was traveling west on the freeway about 1:45 a.m. when it went out of control and hit the concrete barrier on the right side of the roadway, police said.

A 21-year-old woman was found dead at the scene. She apparently had been riding in the bed of the pickup and was ejected onto the roadway, police said.

The driver fled the scene.

Speed was an apparent factor, police said.

Police are asking for help finding the driver of the truck. Call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300, or *CRIME on cell phones.

It was the 35th traffic fatality on Oçahu this year, compared to 27 at this time last year.
