Kona man charged in marijuana-growing operation

HILO — A Kailua, Kona man has been charged in connection with a marijuana growing operation.

Vice officers serving a search warrant on a Hau Nani Street home in Kailua, Kona on Friday discovered an indoor marijuana growing operation.
They arrested 27-year-old Ryan Costello and 22-year-old Sabrina Costello.
Another search warrant at a Catamaran Lane home in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates Subdivision uncovered another indoor marijuana growing operation.
Police recovered 137 marijuana plants, several vials containing hashish and nearly 20 pounds of processed marijuana with a street value of more than $80,000. Also seized were two automobiles and $8,650 in cash for forfeiture.
After conferring with prosecutors, police released Sabrina Costello without charges.
Ryan Costello is charged with two counts of second-degree commercial promotion of marijuana, five counts of drug paraphernalia, two counts of second-degree promotion of a harmful drug and one count each of first-degree promotion of a detrimental drug and third-degree promotion of a detrimental drug.
His bail was set at $33,000.
