Boy, 4, who died after being found in car trunk identified

Advertiser Staff

The medical examiner's office yesterday identified a boy who died Saturday after being found in the trunk of a car as 4-year-old Brayden Mara-Villegas of Ewa Beach.

Mara-Vilegas was found in the trunk of a car on Ibis Avenue in Iroquois Point about 2 p.m. Saturday.

Honolulu firefighters said the boy had been in the trunk for up to an hour.

A police report said the boy was playing outside his home on Ibis Avenue on Saturday while his mother was cleaning house. When his mother went to check on him, she couldn't find him and called family members to help her search.

As the boy's uncle was driving his brown Honda Civic to look for the boy, he noticed a warning light on his dashboard. He went to check the tail lights, opened the trunk and found his nephew.

Emergency personnel performed CPR on the boy before taking him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
