Hawaii homes sought for energy-makeover TV show

By Mike Gordon
Advertiser Staff Writer

Oahu homeowners are being sought for a new TV show that will give their homes a free energy makeover from Blue Planet Foundation.

The show — called “Hawaii Home Energy Makeover” — will be produced this summer and air this fall on KGMB. Billy V and Donalyn Dela Cruz are the show’s co-hosts.
Two homes are being sought: One in which no effort to save energy has been made and another in which basic steps have been taken, such as a solar hot water heater. The second house will receive further energy-efficiency improvements and have a photovoltaic system installed to make it completely energy independent.
“Hawaii Home Energy Makeover” will feature local products, vendors and contractors that will explain how to slash electricity bills and make homes more comfortable.
Interested families are invited to complete an application at www.blueplanetfoundation.org/makeover and submit it with a family photo and a photo of their home.
Families must live on Oahu, own their homes, be willing to have the energy improvements made to their homes, commit to lifestyle modifications and appear in the television program.
The deadline for applicants is July 31.
