The high-surf advisory on the south shores today resulted in a handful of rescues and dozens of assists.

Bryan Cheplic, public information officer for the Honolulu Emergency Services Department, released these numbers from the Ocean Safety and Lifeguard Services Division. The rescue and preventive numbers for District 1 (Ala Moana Beach Park and Waikiki) are as follows:

Ala Moana Beach Park:

  • 0 rescues
  • 5 assists
  • 100 preventive actions

    Waikiki Beach:

The National Weather Service anticipates that the current south swell will keep surf near the advisory level through tomorrow morning before subsiding late tomorrow into the weekend.
