Kokee fire destroys hunters’ check-in station

KOKE‘E – The main check-in station for hunters in Koke‘e located near mile marker 8 was destroyed by fire last night, and a water tank and public toilet facility on the property was partially damaged.

No one was injured in the fire.

Damages to the 20-by-20 wooden structure and its contents, water tank and toilet are estimated to be approximately $50,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Police dispatch received a call about the fire at around 9:45 p.m.

Engine 7, Truck 7, Engine 6, Truck 3 and Rescue 3 responded to the fire. When they arrived, the structure was fully engulfed by flames, and the fire had spread to a water tank and public toilet facility.

The fire was deemed under control at 10:20 p.m. and fully extinguished at 11:49 p.m.

According to a state Department of Land and Natural Resources official, a makeshift check-in station will be set up to accommodate hunters this weekend.
