The director of the "Spider-Man" film franchise is set to transform "World of Warcraft" into a movie.

Blizzard Entertainment Inc. and Legendary Pictures said yesterday that Sam Raimi has signed on to direct "Warcraft," a live-action film based on the popular online role-playing game that allows players to become such characters as orcs, trolls, humans and dwarves.

Raimi is best known for directing "The Evil Dead" and "Spider-Man" trilogy.

POLICE SUSPECTED OF SNOOPING FOR GOSSIP

A special prosecutor said yesterday he is reviewing findings of an investigation of two eastern Ohio police chiefs accused of doing celebrity digging for tabloid material.

State agents have been looking into allegations that the chiefs illegally entered a home in May to obtain information about a woman carrying twins for actors Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick. The surrogate mother, who gave birth in June, was not home at the time.

The chiefs have remained on duty. Neither was available for comment yesterday. Both have declined to comment previously.

FRANZ, SISTER SUE OVER CHANDELIER INJURIES

Actor Dennis Franz and his sister have filed lawsuits over alleged injuries suffered when a chandelier fell at Franz's house on Lake Coeur d'Alene in Idaho in 2007.

The suits filed July 16 in Idaho District Court against Edwards Construction, Inc., ACME Electric, Aladdin Light Lift Inc. and company representatives claim 72-year-old Marlene Schraut suffered serious injuries and that a toddler she was holding was also injured.

"Both she and the baby were knocked to the floor by the impact," according to the suit filed by Franz.

Franz, known for his role as Detective Andy Sipowicz on the TV drama "NYPD Blue," also claims the negligence of the defendants forced him to forgo a $16 million personal services contract.

'DANCE' REACHES 100-SHOW MILESTONE

Tonight's "So You Think You Can Dance" celebrates the dance competition's 100th episode, a fact that executive producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe is still digesting. "Who would've thought?" Lythgoe said this week. "When (co-creator) Simon Fuller said, 'We've been successful with 'American Idol,' do you think this would work with dancing?' I said, 'No!' "

After this season, its fifth, ends next month, Fox will segue directly into a fall season instead of waiting until summer to air again.

Lythgoe said he is excited about the 100th episode, which, in addition to the best routines from all the previous seasons, will feature a pre-recorded performance by Katie Holmes doing an "homage to Judy Garland in that iconic outfit from 'Summer Stock' where she did 'Get Happy.' "
