Kauai residents warned of possible pollution in flood waters, runoff

Advertiser Staff

The state Department of Health’s Clean Water Branch has issued a brown water advisory for Kauai.

Torrential rain yesterday caused flooding in Hanalei and heavy runoff into the ocean, and the National Weather Service says Kauai could see isolated thunderstorms this afternoon.
The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, chemicals, and associated flood debris.
If coastal waters are turbid and brown, stay out.
