HONOLULU – Distributed Energy Partners, the state’s leading commercial solar integrator, announced today the launch of RevoluSun, a residential photovoltaic company.

Currently only about 1 percent of homes in Hawaii have a PV system. Now with Hawaii’s new Act 154, which provides the choice between a tax credit or a new, refundable tax rebate, coupled with federal incentives from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, the next six to 18 months is the ideal time for homeowners to receive maximum payback on a solar system while lowering, and possibly eliminating, what they pay for electricity.

“We decided to launch RevoluSun because we expect residential solar sales to soar with these lucrative tax incentives benefiting Hawaii homeowners,” said Todd Georgopapadakos, founding partner with D/E/P and RevoluSun. “Through our process of marketing, design, and financing know-how, and through our network of licensed contractors to handle a heavy installation demand, RevoluSun will provide Hawaii homeowners a clear understanding of their options, and a smooth, stress-free road to obtaining a PV system.”

Thanks to the various tax incentives, Hawaii homeowners who purchase a system now can save anywhere from 54.5 percent to 65 percent on the cost of a new solar system. With the system, Hawaii residents can virtually eliminate their electric bill for the life of a system, typically 25 years. With current electricity prices, the system pays for itself within six to nine years depending on market conditions.

RevoluSun officials say they expect to complete about $3 million in sales during the second half of 2009. The residential solar integrator is working closely with SunPower Corporation, which offers the highest-efficiency panels available on the market today.

“Through our close relationship with SunPower, we are able to provide homeowners with higher-efficiency, more aesthetically pleasing panels,” said Eric Carlson, founding partner with D/E/P and RevoluSun. “Homeowners can rest assured they are getting the premier products on the market, with the best design and installation teams in Hawaii when they work with RevoluSun.”
