Fulfilling his dream, Wai-pahu's Brian Viloria will defend his International Boxing Federation light flyweight boxing title in Hawai'i.

Viloria, who won his world title with a spectacular knockout of Mexico's Ulises Solis in April in the Philippines, will fight Jesus Iribe in a 108-pound fight on a card scheduled for Aug. 29 at Blaisdell Arena.

Viloria's manager Gary Gittelsohn said an undercard hasn't been finalized but it will include fighters from here and the Philippines.

"We' re trying to put all the ducks in order to bring a big championship fight to Hawai'i, which has always been Brian's dream and (which) he directed me to do.

"He really enjoyed fighting in front of a comfortable, supportive audience and he found that in Manila and Hawai'i. He always wanted to have a world title fight in Hawai'i."

Viloria last fought in Hawai'i in April 2003 at the Sheraton Waikiki.

Viloria (25-2, 15 knockouts), who is training in Oxnard, Calif., should find a formidable opponent in Iribe (15-5-5, 9 KOs), who is the current Mexican light flyweight champion and ranked No. 15 in the IBF.

"This is not going to be a walk in the park for Brian," Gittelsohn said. "He's a very solid opponent, very skilled fighter. In his entire career, I think he's only been stopped once. He recently (last year) went 12 rounds with WBC champ (Edgar) Sosa. He figures to go the distance with Brian and test Brian very well."

Gittelsohn added that Iribe's record is "very deceptive. Of all the losses, he's had some that were quite controversial. He's fought the very best, even up to the 112 pounds."

Gittelsohn said a press conference will be called probably sometime next week to announce the details of the fight, which is scheduled to be telecast on pay-per-view and to the Philippines via GMA, the country's major network. Ticket information is expected to be announced then.

Viloria's return to the top wasn't easy for the former Olympian and two-time champion.

After losing a WBC world title fight in 2007, Viloria was relegated to boxing at "swap meets and parking lots," where he wasn't even the main event on some of those cards.

He went 5-0 in 2008, thus earning the IBF title shot against Solis, with Viloria scoring a stunning 11th-round knockout.

Viloria was the WBC world champion in 2005, but lost that title in his second defense.

"This time I'm more mature and I feel like I know what it takes to stay at this level," Viloria said in an interview in May.

Financial details were not available. Gittelsohn said, "I think we've gone over the numbers and we've spoken with local promoters, specifically Tom Moffatt, who've we worked with before. Tom's given us a budget that we've reviewed."

Gittelsohn said he's "already reached out to (the state boxing commission) and they seemed to be very willing and eager to embrace this event.

"We need to put an undercard together that's going to be relevant to the market," he added.

One fighter who likely will be on the card, according to Gittelsohn, will be A.J. Banal, a popular fighter from the Philippines. Banal is an 118-pound bantanweight with a 19-1 record and 16 knockouts.
