Associated Press

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa — A quarter commemorating the U.S. territory of American Samoa enters circulation tomorrow.

The quarter, the fourth in a new U.S. Mint series, features a bowl, a whisk and a staff, which are used during ava ceremonies — considered significant in Samoan culture. The quarter also includes a coconut tree on the shore and the territory’s motto, “Samoa, God is First,” in Samoan.
American Samoa is about 2,300 miles south of Hawaiçi.
