A suspected drunken driver was arrested yesterday after police said she ran a red light in Kapolei and her sport utility vehicle struck a Corvette broadside, killing an 'Ewa Beach man.

Kristin Mancao, 27, of Makakilo was arrested on suspicion of negligent homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. She was released from the main police station on Beretania Street last night pending investigation.

The 52-year-old driver of the Corvette was pronounced dead at the scene. The Honolulu medical examiner's office had not released his identity last night.

Family and friends interviewed yesterday at the crash site by KHNL-TV identified the victim as Dean Gomes. Yesterday afternoon, someone had set out flowers by a utility pole at the accident site.

The accident happened around 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Fort Barrette Road and Kapolei Parkway.

According to the Honolulu Police Department's vehicular homicide section, Mancao ran a red light and drove her speeding north-bound SUV into the intersection, where it broadsided the sports car that was making a left turn from Kapolei Parkway.

Mancao has no prior criminal record, according to the Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center.

She and her passenger, a 28-year-old Kapolei man, were unharmed.

The fatality was the 36th of the year on O'ahu, compared with 29 at the same time last year.
