EPA praises Macy’s stores in Hawaii

Associated Press

HONOLULU — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has recognized Macy’s Inc. as one of its top 20 partners for generating the most green electricity on site.
The EPA said Monday in a Washington news release that the company’s Hawaii and California stores are generating more than 10 million kilowatt-hours of solar power annually.

The agency says Macy’s use of green power is equivalent to 3 percent of the electricity use of its stores located in California and Hawaii.
Macy’s ranks No. 14 on the EPA’s Top 20 On-site Green Power Users List.
Combined, the top 20 partners are generating and consuming more than 736 million kilowatt hours of on-site green power annually. That’s equivalent to the electricity needed to power more than 61,000 American homes a year.
