Hawaii receives fed grant for underground tank leaks
Hawai'i is getting more than $1 million from the federal government to assess and clean up underground storage tank petroleum leaks.
The Environmental Protection Agency yesterday said the greatest potential hazard from a leaking underground storage tank is hazardous substances seeping into the soil and contaminating groundwater.
The money is part of $197 million appropriated under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to address sites nationwide contaminated by petroleum from leaking underground storage tanks.
