Kamehameha Highway reopened near Pounders Beach; HECO service restored

Advertiser Staff

Kamehameha Highway near Pounders Beach was reopened and electrical service was fully restored this afternoon after a truck accident knocked down a utility pole early this morning in Laie.

Hawaiian Electric Co. workers had the pole repaired at 1:10 p.m. today and Kamehameha Highway was reopened, HECO spokesman Darren Pai said.
The collision at 55-185 Kamehameha Highway just after 1 a.m. initially knocked out electrical service to 269 customers as the utility pole blocked the highway, forcing drivers to find an alternate route.
All but six HECO customers had service restored by 8 a.m. The remaining customers have since gotten full service restored, Pai said.
