Man in critical condition after moped-pickup collision in Kailua

Advertiser Staff

A Kaneohe man is in critical condition today after the moped he was operating was struck by a pickup truck last night in Kailua.

Police said both the moped operator and the driver of the truck may have been under the influence of alcohol.
The crash took place on Maluniu Avenue, just south of Manono Street, at about 10:25.
The moped was making a right turn out of Manono onto Maluniu when it crossed into oncoming traffic and was hit by the truck.
The moped’s operator, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the vehicle.
City paramedics took the 41-year-old man to a hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the truck, a 31-year-old Kailua man, appeared to be intoxicated and was arrested for driving under the influence.
