Tennis: Gonzalez upsets No. 3 Murray in French quarters

Associated Press

PARIS — Fernando Gonzalez has advanced to the French Open semifinals for the first time by upsetting third-seeded Andy Murray 6-3, 3-6, 6-0, 6-4.

The 12th-seeded Gonzalez was broken serving for the match at 5-4 in the final set, but he broke back at love for the victory Tuesday. Gonzalez finished with 24 forehand winners to three for Murray.

At 28, the Chilean was the oldest player to reach the quarterfinals. He won the Roland Garros boys title in 1998.

With the elimination of Murray, only two men seeded in the top 10 remain — No. 2 Roger Federer and No. 5 Juan Martin del Potro.
