Honolulu gets $1M grant to help young parents

Advertiser Staff

Sen. Daniel K. Inouye announced today that the City and County of Honolulu will get a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to help underprivileged young parents obtain education and job-skills training that can lead to employment.

The grant is to help mothers, expectant mothers and fathers ages 16 to 24 receive training. Support services, which include childcare, transportation and healthcare, will also be available to young parents.

“The initiatives funded by this grant will give parents whose young lives have already been challenged by homelessness, abuse or separation from their own parents a chance for a brighter future,” Inouye said.
