HANAKAPI'AI – A 27-year-old San Francisco woman was airlifted from Hanakapi'ai Beach about noon yesterday after injuring her leg in a fall.
She was taken to Wilcox Hospital.

Fire officials said the woman slipped and fell while hiking the Kalalau Trail. The woman’s fiance, who was with her on the hike, carried her on his back all the way to Hanakapi'ai Beach.
Friends and bystanders yelled out to a nearby boat from the beach, and the boat captain notified the U.S. Coast Guard via VHF radio.
In turn, the Coast Guard contacted police dispatch about the incident at 10:07 a.m.
Three rescue specialists from the Lihu'e fire station responded to the call, and headed out on a county helicopter about 11:39 a.m.
The rescue crew landed at Hanakapi'ai Beach and picked up the woman at around noon. From there, the group was taken to Princeville Airport, where paramedics picked up the injured hiker and took her to Wilcox Hospital.
