ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The New Mexico Symphony Orchestra has hired Grammy Award winner Matt Catingub as its principal pops conductor.

Catingub, conductor for the Honolulu Symphony Pops since 1998, replaces Michael Krajewski, the principal pops conductor from 2000 to 2008.
Catingub will conduct the NMSO’s Symphony Under the Stars concert May 30 at the Rio Grande Zoo as well as a holiday program in December and a Frank Sinatra tribute in March.
The symphony says he also will help plan pops programming in the 2010-2011 season.
Catingub appeared with NMSO’s Very Merry Pops holiday performance last December.
He wrote the music for the film, “Goodnight, and Good Luck,” a soundtrack that won the 2005 Grammy.
