In fulfillment of their mission and as one of their projects, Ma Ka Hana Ka Ike students and members of the Hana community built the 1,200-square-foot Bamboo Pavilion. The pavilion will be used for industrial.

“The project caught the attention of a film crew from the Discovery Channel’s Planet Green programs that focus on green building and design,” said Rick Rutiz, Executive Director of Ma Ka Hana Ka Ike, in a press release.

The Discovery Channel filmed the construction of the pavilion for their show “Renovation Nation” on The Planet Green Channel. Coverage of the construction will air on Friday, June 5, at 3 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Dish Network and will repeat on Saturday.

Ma Ka Hana Ka Ike is an organization, nearly a decade old, that aims to teach students by applying academics to real-life situations. For more information go to www.hanabuildingprogram.org.
