SEATTLE — Slumping veteran Adrian Beltre said he had reached a low this season, a level he had not seen before.

He was back at the bottom at the end of last night's win — that is the bottom of a celebrating, back-pounding dog pile of Mariners.

Beltre singled home Franklin Gutierrez, who tripled, with one out in the bottom of the ninth for his third hit, sending Seattle to a 3-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles last night.

"You know, baseball is full of ups and downs. And I've been at the lowest point for two months," said Beltre, who was benched for batting .211 and anxiously swinging at almost anything two weeks ago but is at .244 now in the final year of his $64 million contract.

He has six hits in his last two games.

Gutierrez's drive banged off the top of the wall in left-center just beyond the reach of leaping center fielder Adam Jones. Jim Johnson (2-3) then intentionally walked both Ichiro Suzuki, who had earlier extended his hitting streak to 27 games, and Russell Branyan to load the bases for Beltre in hopes of a double play.

Johnson fell behind 3-1 on 96 mph fastballs. On a third 3-2 pitch, a fastball up, Beltre lined a single into left field beyond the reach of drawn-in shortstop Cesar Izturis.

RED SOX 10, TIGERS 5:

Josh Beckett (6-2) did not allow a hit until there were two outs in the seventh inning and David Ortiz hit a three-run double, leading visiting Boston over Detroit, which scored five unearned runs in the eighth.

The Red Sox, though, lost Kevin Youkilis in the eighth inning. While stretching for a throw at first, Youkilis appeared to have his right ankle stepped on by Josh Anderson.

RANGERS 4, YANKEES 2:

Scott Feldman (5-0) allowed two runs and five hits in 6 1/3 innings to win his third consecutive start and visiting Texas leapfrogged New York for the best record in the American League.

The Yankees were without first baseman Mark Teixeira, scratched with a bruised right ankle.

RAYS 9, ROYALS 0:

Jeff Niemann (5-4) took a perfect game into the fifth inning and wound up with a two-hitter, and Ben Zobrist hit a grand slam to help host Tampa Bay beat Kansas City.

Niemann retired his first 14 batters before Mark Teahen lined a two-out single to center in the fifth. The right-hander struck out a career-high nine and walked one in his first complete game.

ANGELS 8, BLUE JAYS 1:

Jered Weaver (5-2) allowed one run and three hits in seven innings with a career-high 10 strikeouts, and Bobby Abreu homered to lead visiting Los Angeles.

Chone Figgins had three hits, drove in a run and scored twice for the Angels, who finished with seven extra-base hits.

INDIANS 10, TWINS 1:

Cliff Lee (3-6) turned in his 10th straight quality start, six innings or more and three runs allowed or less, in picking up only his second victory since April 16 as visiting Cleveland cruised past Minnesota.

ATHLETICS 5, WHITE SOX 3:

Bobby Crosby and Landon Powell hit back-to-back homers in the fourth, and Jason Giambi added a solo shot in the fifth for a 5-3 lead as visiting Oakland defeated Chicago.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

BREWERS 9, MARLINS 6:

Ryan Braun homered and Milwaukee scored three runs on walks to snap its five-game road losing streak with a victory over Florida.

The Brewers scored six runs in the fifth inning, three on bases-loaded walks from Hayden Penn, who relieved rookie Sean West (0-3) with runners on first and second.

REDS 9, CARDINALS 3:

Johnny Cueto (5-3) allowed one run on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings to beat St. Louis for the second time this season, and Laynce Nix homered twice with four RBIs to lead visiting Cincinnati.

Cardinals starter Kyle Lohse (4-4) was taken out with none out in the third inning complaining of tightness in his right forearm.

PHILLIES 5, PADRES 1:

Ryan Howard hit a two-run homer off Chris Young (4-4) and J.A. Happ (4-0) scattered four hits in seven scoreless innings as visiting Philadelphia swept the three-game series for its sixth straight victory.

Phillies center fielder and St. Anthony alum Shane Victorino left the game in the sixth inning with a strained left hip.

DODGERS 1, DIAMONDBACKS 0:

Chad Billingsley (7-3) scattered four hits and struck out nine over six innings, and Casey Blake hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth to lift Los Angeles over Arizona.

Ron Belisario, Ramon Troncoso and Jonathan Broxton, who pitched a perfect ninth for his 13th save, completed the combined seven-hitter.

CUBS 3, BRAVES 2:

Pinch-hitter Micah Hoffpauir blooped an RBI single to score Derrek Lee in the top of the 11th inning, and Chicago hung on to beat the Atlanta.

ASTROS 6, ROCKIES 4:

Hunter Pence had a solo homer and two RBI singles, and Chris Sampson worked two scoreless innings to earn his third save in four chances as host Houston beat Colorado for its fourth straight victory.
