MLB: Tiger Stadium demolition resumes after ruling

BEN LEUBSDORF
Associated Press Writer

DETROIT — The demolition of Tiger Stadium has resumed a few hours after a judge refused to stop it.

Crews used a backhoe to tear away chunks of the upper deck along the third base line.

Dozens of onlookers gathered outside the old ballpark in Detroit to witness the destruction as it got back under way around 1:50 p.m. today

Earlier Monday, a Wayne County judge rejected a request by the Old Tiger Stadium Conservancy to issue a preliminary injunction preventing further demolition of the stadium. He also lifted a temporary restraining order issued Friday afternoon that halted work begun just hours earlier.

Tiger Stadium opened in 1912 as Navin Field. The Tigers departed for Comerica Park after the 1999 season.
