Culinary scholarship endowed in name of 'Mom' Kodama

A $25,000 starting gift will endow a scholarship fund for culinary student at Leeward Community College in the name of the late Sunao Sandy "Mom" Kodama, mother of restaurateur D. K. Kodama and, until her death, a fixture at his restaurants.

Her husband Tamateru "Tama" Kodama, of 'Aiea, and the Kodama clan (five sons, one daughter and innumerable grands) established the Sunao Sandy "Mom" Kodama Memorial Scholarship Fund last week via the University of Hawaiçi Foundation.
Kodama, a talented home cook, was the smiling hostess at her son's Honolulu restaurant, never forgetting a name.
She befriended the staff and cooked for them. Her desserts were famed and sometimes even made it on to the menu.
Scholarships are available to full- or part-time undergraduate students in LCC's culinary program with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above and a financial need.
