Police today arrested a man suspected of stealing an off-duty police officer’s weapons, ammunition and other equipment last week.

Officers arrested Theodore Gates, 38, and a woman in his car in the Punchbowl area following a vehicle pursuit that began in the Punahou area, went to Pearl City and back toward downtown. The arrest was made about 4 p.m. on Prospect Place, near Stevenson Middle School.
Police said Gates was also being held on suspicion of auto theft.
Police said Gates is a suspect in the break-in and theft of an off-duty officer’s car in Kailua on Friday. Someone broke into the car in a parking garage on Aulike Street and took the officer’s department-issued handgun, rifle, ammunition, holster and identification card.
