Woman arrested in infant death case

A 26-year-old Mililani woman was arrested yesterday afternoon in connection with the death of a 7-week-old boy in May.

Natalee K. Westbrook of a Kipapa Drive address was arrested about 4:40 p.m. at the main police station at Beretania Street.

She was booked for investigation of one count of second-degree murder and remained in police custody last night pending charges.

Westbrook was arrested in connection with the death of Maika Lawelawe-Westbrook on May 10. Police last night did not say what the relationship was between the boy and the suspect.

On May 9, police said the infant's aunt found the boy unresponsive and called for an ambulance.

Emergency medical personnel took the boy to a hospital for tests and treatment. The baby died May 10, police said.

The city medical examiner's office conducted an autopsy and determined that the baby died of "intracranial injury due to abusive head trauma." Police then classified the case as a homicide.

Police said their investigation led them to Westbrook, who turned herself in yesterday.
