VIDEO: Punahou's Maddison McKibbin named ILH Volleyball Player of the Year

Punahou's Maddison McKibbin provided the leadership and versatility that resulted in another state title.

McKibbin, a 6-foot-6 senior who played at opposite and setter, was voted as the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I Player of the Year by league coaches.

McKibbin, who will play at Southern California next year, helped the Buffanblu (19-4) win the state championship. The Buffanblu lost in the title match last year and won in 2006 when McKibbin was a sophomore. He was one of three Buffanblu players on this year's team.

McKibbin's teammates on the first team were juniors Henry Cassiday and Taylor Crabb and sophomore Josh Taylor. Kamehameha sophomore Micah Christenson and senior Kahale Morgan also made the first team, as did Mid-Pacific senior Ryan Dunham and 'Iolani junior libero Scott Sakaida.

Punahou coach Rick Tune was voted Coach of the Year.

Matthew Lui, a 6-foot senior setter for Hawai'i Baptist, was named ILH Division II Player of the Year. Lui's sets found the Eagles' talented hitters, which helped lead the Eagles (19-1) to their second straight Division II state championship.

Hawai'i Baptist's only loss was to Punahou during the ILH regular season.

Hawai'i Baptist's Kyle Barretta, Ryan Leung and Christopher Matsui, a libero, were named to the first team. Also on the first team were Lanakila Baptist junior Chase Hazelwood, Le Jardin juniors AJ Shiarella and Kalani Soeda, and Word of Life junior Jonathan Sampaga.

Hawai'i Baptist coach Teoni Obrey and Word of Life coach Howard Kaululaau were selected Co-Coaches of the Year.
