England improved to 7-0 in qualifying for next year’s World Cup with a 6-0 victory over visiting Andorra on Wednesday night, and Mexico beat Trinidad and Tobago 2-1 to rebound from a slow start.

On the last big qualifying night around the world before the summer break, two-time champion Argentina dropped a 2-0 decision at Ecuador, and five-time champion Brazil rallied for a 2-1 victory over Paraguay.
While most big European nations are off from qualifying until September, England coasted at Wembley as Wayne Rooney and Jermain Defoe scored two goals apiece, and Frank Lampard and Peter Crouch each had one.
Rooney finished the international season with 10 goals, the most for England since Gary Lineker in 1990-91.
“Always when you play against a team that is not strong, you have to start quickly, press and win back the ball. That is what we did,” England manager Fabio Capello said.
David Beckham made his first start for England in a competitive match in two years. The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder made his 112th international appearance, 13 shy of the English record set by goalkeeper Peter Shilton.
“We have shown in every game various progress and it was the same tonight,” Beckham said. “It could have been a difficult game, but we made it easy with the way we played. Tonight we can be happy.”
Serbia won 2-0 at the Faeroe Islands as Milan Jovanovic scored in the 43rd minute and Neven Subotic got his first international goal in the 62nd. Subotic, a 20-year-old defender who was born in Bosnia and holds an American passport, grew up partly in Salt Lake City and Bradenton, Fla., and played for the U.S. Under-17 and Under-20 teams.
Serbia (6-1) leads Group Seven with 18 points, eight ahead of second-place France (3-1-1).
The Netherlands (7-0), which clinched Europe’s first berth on Saturday, defeated visiting Norway 2-0 in goals by Andre Ooijer in the 32nd minute and Arjen Robben in the 50th.
Russia won 3-0 at Finland on two goals by Alexander Kerzhakov and one by Konstantin Zyryanov. Russia (5-1) is second in Group One, one point behind Germany (5-0-1).
In other European games it was Sweden 4, Malta 0 in Group One; Ukraine 2, Kazakhstan 1 in Group Six; and Macedonia 2, Iceland 0 in Group Nine. The nine European group winners qualify, and the top eight second-place nations advance to playoffs.
Italy beat New Zealand 4-3 in an exhibition at Atteridgeville, South Africa, ahead of the Confederations Cup. Alberto Gilardino and Vincenzo Iaquinta scored two goals each, and the world champions rallied three times.
In North and Central America and the Caribbean, Mexico beat visiting Trinidad and Tobago 2-1 on goals by Guillermo Franco in the first minute and Oscar Rojas in the 51st around an equalizer by Hayden Tinto in first-half injury time. Honduras returned home from its 2-1 loss to the United States last weekend to beat visiting El Salvador 1-0 on Carlos Pavon’s goal in the 13th minute.
Midway through the final round, Costa Rica (4-1) leads with 12 points, followed by the United States (3-1-1) with 10, Honduras (2-2-1) with seven, Mexico (2-3) with six, El Salvador (1-2-2) with five and Trinidad (0-3-2) with two.
The top three teams qualify, and No. 4 meets the fifth-place nation from South America in a playoff. Mexico has three home games remaining.
In South America, Carlos Tevez’s penalty kick in the 29th minute at Quito was blocked by Ecuador goalkeeper Marcelo Elizaga, who was born in Argentina. Ecuador then got goals from Walter Ayovi in the 72nd minute and Pablo Palacios scored in the 84th.
Quito’s 9,300-feet altitude appeared to bother Argentina, just as the 12,000-foot altitude in La Paz did during a 6-1 loss at Bolivia in April.
“Looking at the effort that this group put out today, we’re going to qualify for South Africa,” Argentina coach Diego Maradona said. “But in football when you don’t score you pay for it. I have no criticism of my players. They did all I asked.”
At Recife, Robinho tied the score in the 41st minute and Nilmar got the go-ahead goal in the 49th after Salvador Cabanas put Paraguay ahead in the 26th minute, just the sixth goal against Brazil in 14 qualifying matches.
Elsewhere in South America it was Colombia 1, Peru 0; Chile 4, Bolivia 0; and Venezuela 2, Uruguay 2.
Brazil (7-1-6) leads South America with 27 points, one ahead Chile (8-4-2), three in front of Paraguay (7-4-3) and five ahead of Argentina (6-4-4). Ecuador (5-4-5) is fifth with 20, followed by Uruguay (4-4-6) with 18, and Colombia (4-5-5) and Venezuela (5-7-2) with 17 each.
In Asia it was Australia 2, Bahrain 0; Japan 1, Qatar 1; South Korea 0, Saudi Arabia 0; and Iran 1, United Arab Emirates 0.
Australia, Japan and South Korea clinched berths last weekend, while Qatar was eliminated with Wednesday’s tie.
In its final match next Wednesday, Bahrain (2-4-1) needs only a point from its home game against Uzbekistan (1-5-1) to clinch third place in Group A, which would secure a playoff against the third-place team from Group B.
Saudi Arabia (3-2-2) must win its final game at home against North Korea (3-2-2), which has a better goal difference, if it is to clinch an automatic berth. A tie or loss would give the slot to North Korea.
