Marine Corps Base Hawaii firing test rounds

MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII, Kaneohe Bay — The Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay will utilize four M101A1 105mm howitzers to practice fire four 40mm blank rounds from the Marine Corps Air Station flight line from 10 to 11 a.m. today.

This practice fire session is to prepare the Marines for a ceremony tomorrow. During the ceremony, from 10 to 10:15 a.m., Marines will fire 17 40mm blank rounds, again utilizing four M101A1 105mm howitzers.

In the Marine Corps, these WWII M101A1 105mm howitzers are utilized for ceremonial purposes in extremely limited roles, primarily for firing salutes.
