A FILM FEST WITH THE KEIKI IN MIND

It's quickly becoming as popular an annual affair as any of the bigger events, and this year's Kids First! Film Festival takes things up a notch by including in its program a short-attention-span environmental film fest.

With a full schedule of fun and entertaining films for the keiki, from classics like "The Velveteen Rabbit" to nouveau fare like the French-made "Chasing Dragons" (right), it's hard to believe that all of that, plus more, is free.

The film fest, now in its third year, is sponsored by the University of Hawai'i Outreach College and locally curated. Last year, the little film fest that could won the best community film series award at the national Kids First! Best Awards in Hollywood.

THE ROCKY LAPORTE SHOW

Voted the best male comedian of 2008 at last year's Las Vegas Comedy Special, Rocky LaPorte brings his brand of blue-collar comedy to Pipeline Café at 8 p.m. Wednesday ($20, www.groovetickets.com).

BOYS WILL BE ... GIRLS

The Universal ShowQueen pageant brings the glitz to the Hawai'i Convention Center at 6 p.m. Saturday ($40, 943-6066) for a beauty contest that is "the ultimate in boy beautiful." You've got male, ladies!

DOLLS IN THE HOUSE

The official Pussycat Dolls' concert after-party happens Saturday night.

ALL-TIME HIGH

Pop punk foursome All Time Low will be doing an all-ages show at Pipeline Café tonight. Doors open at 7 p.m. ($20, www.ticketmaster.com). Word on the music circuit is that the guys have a new record coming out in July.

NIGHT VISION

On the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, Hanauma Bay (396-4229) stays open until 10 p.m. Grab a mask, snorkel and fins and see for yourself what goes on under the sea when the sunburned tourists go home. Parking is $1, and kama'aina get in for free (everyone else pays a $5 admission fee).

THIS IS STILL SPINAL TAP

Kings of mock rock, Spinal Tap, are back with their first album of new material since their 1992 album, "Break Like the Wind." Turn that amp to 11 and fake rock out to "Back From the Dead," which will be released Tuesday.

SUMMER MUSIC

The Waikiki Aquarium's annual five-week long summer concert series kicks off at 7 p.m. Thursday, with The Brothers Cazimero kicking off the under-the-stars showcase. ($25, 550-8847)
