'Iolani pitcher Brittney Guro was named Gatorade Hawai'i Softball Player of the Year.

The 5-foot-3, right-handed senior led the Raiders to a 15-2 record, Interscholastic League of Honolulu title and a third-place finish at the state championships. Guro finished with a 0.73 ERA, 110 strikeouts and 16 walks while holding opponents to a .094 batting average.

Guro, who will attend the University of Portland, had a 3.63 grade point average, was a member of the National Honor Society and volunteered as a peer tutor and library aide. She is now a finalist for the national Gatorade award, which will be announced later this month.
