Oahu lifeguards rescued 19 people off Waikiki and Ala Moana beaches today as the surf swell kept waves high off southern Oahu.

EMS Department spokesman Bryan Cheplic said Ocean Safety personnel performed 19 rescues, 35 assists and 563 preventive actions (usually warning people not to enter dangerous surf) as the summer swell continued to sweep Oahu's southern shores.

There were no reports of serious injuries.

The weather service said south shore waves were 5 to 8 feet today. A new southeast swell caused by storms near Easter Island is expected to arrive Monday, keeping surf high and waves could be 7 to 10 feet. The high surf may last until mid week.

A high surf advisory remains in effect until at least 6 p.m. Monday.
