If you're a new mom, or a mom with young kids, you'll probably find someone like-minded in Diane Ako.

On Thursday, Ako kicks off Small Talk, a new Honolulu Advertiser blog in which the TV journalist and married mom will be writing three times a week about life with her daughter Olivia, 2.

"While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about. I love motherhood, and look forward to chatting with you all about it," Ako said in a message to prospective readers.

Ako is co-anchor of the KHNL News 8 morning news and was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2007 for her reporting on a killer mudslide in the Philippines. Before KHNL, Ako reported and anchored in California, Pennsylvania and New Mexico.

Ako, who is married and has a dog and cat, says her favorite hobbies are traveling, writing, eating and sleeping. She volunteers with the East-West Center, and practices Japanese ju jitsu.
