Ex-police officer charged with firearms, drug offenses

Advertiser Staff

A former Honolulu police officer was charged today with federal firearms and drug offenses.

Rik Mikio Orton was first arrested by HPD officers last week on domestic violence charges after his live-in girlfriend, also a former HPD officer, complained that he had physically abused her at their Laie home.
The girlfriend also charged that Orton was using anabolic steroids and marijuana and possessed three firearms.
She also told police that Orton said he would shoot any police officers that came to his home, according to a sworn affidavit from federal agent Ty Torco.
Police executed a search warrant at the home June 11 and recovered three loaded handguns, including one that had had its serial number removed with “an abrasive grinding device,” said Torco, an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Police also recovered “a plastic container with used vials of suspected steroids, needles and syringes,” the affidavit said.
Orton’s former wife told police that Orton had used steroids as well as the prescription painkiller oxycontin and marijuana “on a weekly basis” when they were married, according to Torco’s affidavit.
