The Department of Community Services’ YouthBuild Honolulu program has been selected for a $1.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, the city said today.

“We’re very pleased to be able to continue to provide services for Oahu’s disadvantaged youth through our YouthBuild Honolulu program,” Mayor Hannemann said in a statement. “It is especially satisfying that the U.S. Department of Labor, through this grant award, has acknowledged and affirmed our commitment towards helping our young people prepare for the workforce and achieve their goals.”
The funds will help the YouthBuild program serve 70 additional non-high school graduates, age 16-24 over a two-year period. Program training activities include a high school diploma course; hands-on and vocational construction training; community service projects; job readiness training; and job and post-secondary education placement.
Further information on the YouthBuild program and specific eligibility requirements are available through the city’s Youth Services Center at 832-7960.
