Man sentenced to 10 years for selling 3.99 grams of ice

Advertiser Staff

A 47-year-old Hilo man was sentenced to 10 years in prison yesterday for selling methamphetamine.

Wesley Tailan was arrested in 2007 and found to have 3.99 grams of ice in his possession. He pleaded guilty in January to a charge of second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug.

Tailan had been released on parole two months before he was arrested on the drug charge. He had been sentenced to five years in prison in 2003 for felony abuse of a household or family member.

Tailan yesterday asked to be placed on probation, but Judge Glenn Hara, citing Tailan's criminal history and the damage ice does to a community, said a prison sentence was needed.
