Services for City Councilman Duke Bainum will be held at Hosoi Garden Mortuary on June 26. Visitors may call from noon. A formal service will begin at 2 p.m.

Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. June 27 at Diamond Head Memorial Park.

All services are public. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Duke and Jennifer Bainum Foundation, P.O. Box 11120, Honolulu, HI 96828.

Bainum died suddenly late June 9 from complications due to an aortic aneurysm. He was 56.

He served in the state House of Representatives from 1990 to 1994 and the City Council from 1995 to 2003.

In 2004, he finished second to Mufi Hannemann in the race for Honolulu mayor. Last year, he won election to his second stint on the council, representing the 5th District, which encompasses Kapahulu, Palolo, Manoa and Makiki.
