DETROIT — The Detroit Tigers have designated for assignment the contract of catcher Dane Sardinha, a Kamehameha graduate.

Saturday's move was to make room on its roster for righthanded pitcher Alfredo Figaro, whose contract was recalled from Double-A Erie. He started 11 games for Erie, posting a 5-2 record, 4.10 ERA and 59 strikeouts.

Sardinha batted 3 for 31 (.097) with 16 strikeouts in 12 games this season with Detroit.
