A brush fire that has burned an estimated 80 acres on Maui in Maalae has closed the Honoapiilani Highway and motorist traveling out of west Maui must go through Kahakuloa, Maui firefighters say.

Fire officials estimate that it could be at least two more hours before the roadway is reopened. The reopening of the roadway is dependent upon the winds, debris and heavy equipment.
Motorists are advised to expect significant delays, even once the highway is reopened.
