KEAUHOU BEACH RESORT CELEBRATES ALL THINGS MANGO

The Keauhou Beach Resort on the Big Island is celebrating Mango Festival 2009 on Aug. 1, with special room rates starting at $149 per person, or $199 for two.

The package includes one night accommodations, a self-service buffet breakfast the following morning, and entry to the Mango Festival's Kona Mango Experience and the Mango Inspired Dinner.

Festivities include farmer-chef cooking demonstrations, tastings, lessons on mango growth and preparations, mango art, live entertainment and more.

This year, Mango Man Stuart Johnson and chef William Trask, president of the ACF Kona Kohala Chefs Association, will be featured.

Admission to the morning Keauhou Farmers Market is free. Entrance to the Kona Mango Experience at Keauhou Beach Resort is $10 and includes a Kona Brewing Co. beverage or the festival's mango coloring book. The evening's Mango Inspired Dinner is priced at $39.95, plus tax.

RENOVATION MEANS DISCOUNTS AT KAUAI MARRIOTT RESORT

GRAND HYATT KAUA'I SITE OF 3 HAWAIIAN CULTURAL EVENTS

Three events aimed at teaching and perpetuating Native Hawaiian cultural practices and values are slated from Oct. 1 to 3 at the Grand Hyatt Kaua'i Resort and Spa in Po'ipu, Kaua'i. They are the 17th annual Hawaiiana Festival, the third annual Malama Ola Festival and the fourth annual "Is Hawaiian Culture Alive and Well" conference.

Demonstrations include woodcarving, lauhala weaving, tapa-making, feather arts, poi pounding, the art of kakau, stone carving, lei making, music and dance.

Hawaiian food and entertainment are also planned, including a lu'au and a Hawaiian buffet luncheon.

On the same dates, a focus on Hawaiian healing practices will be presented in a series of health and wellness activities grouped together as the Malama Ola Festival, at the Grand Hyatt Kaua'i's Anara Spa.
