MLB to donate $99,000 to help build Billings Little League field

Associated Press

BILLINGS, Mont. — Major League Baseball is donating $99,000 to Little League teams in Billings to help build a new baseball field.

The check was scheduled to be presented Tuesday before the Billings Mustangs' Pioneer League home opener.

The MLB donation, along with local donations, will be used to build a baseball field in the city-owned Centennial Park.

The grant to Montana District 1 Little League comes from the Baseball Tomorrow Fund, a program jointly sponsored by MLB and the MLB Players Association that helps renovate and build youth baseball fields.

Obtaining the grant required raising $72,500 in matching funds. The district raised $87,000 in cash and in-kind services.

Rick DeVore, Little League district administrator, says the district has been trying to build a field for years. The district has 40 upper-level teams between Huntley and Columbus, playing on just nine fields.
