HILO — A 20-year-old Laupahoehoe woman accused of possessing more than a pound of crystal methamphetamine pleaded not guilty yesterday and has been ordered to stand trial Oct. 19.

Rene Lynn Halstead entered her plea before Circuit Judge Greg Nakamura.
Halstead was arrested June 3 after police executed a search warrant on her 1995 Mazda at the Honokaa 76 station and allegedly found nearly 120 grams of ice. A search of her Laupahoehoe apartment turned up over 292 grams of methamphetamine, plus 100 pills of hydrocodone —a semi-opioid painkiller commonly marketed as Vicodin — and more than an ounce of marijuana.
Halstead is facing 11 separate charges, including two counts each of first-degree methamphetamine trafficking, and fourth-degree promotion of a harmful drug, four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and single-counts of third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, second-degree promotion of a harmful drug and third-degree promotion of a detrimental drug.
She remains in custody in Hawaii Community Correctional Center in lieu of $47,000 bail.
