Kaumakapili lu'au July 18; menu is 'ono

 • Focus turns to dialogue

The 38th annual legendary Kaumakapili Church Lu'au is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. July 18 at the Kalihi-Palama church.

The cost is $25.

The menu — featuring kalua pig, lomilomi salmon, chicken long rice, poi, poke, 'opihi, haupia and sweet potato — is also available in take-out boxes. Pick-up is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day on Kanoa Street, one block mauka of North King Street, off Palama Street. Takeout meals cost $15.

ISLAM DAY DISCUSSION AT HARRIS METHODIST

The separation of church and state and the controversial proposal to establish an Islam Day in Hawai'i will be discussed at an Interfaith Open Table Wednesday at Harris United Methodist Church.

Speaking will be American Civil Liberties attorney Daniel Gluck, and Hakim Ouansafi, president of the Muslim Association of Hawaii.

The discussion, "Separation of Church and State: Where is the Line?," is open to the public from 7 to 8:30 a.m.

DIAMOND SANGHA SETS 50TH ANNIVERSARY AGENDA

Diamond Sangha — the lay Buddhist organization founded in part by Robert Aitken, will celebrate its 50th anniversary July 12 at the Palolo Zen Center, 2747 Wai'oma'o Road.

Expected to attend will be Aitken, 91, and 25 Diamond Sangha teachers from Australia, New Zealand, Europe, North America and Hawai'i.

Events will include a ceremony from 9 to 11:30 a.m., potluck lunch at noon, activities and storytelling from 2 to 4 p.m. and music and fun from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
