Let us all embrace teachings of Jesus

 • Focus turns to dialogue

When Jesus taught, people were astonished, amazed, for his words were filled with power, authority.

Jesus inspired and encouraged, but the majority were disturbed and felt that his teaching was too difficult.

When we read or hear the words of Jesus, are we impressed? Most of us would probably say "yes."

If asked, do the words of Jesus still have value for us today? Probably another "yes."

In the 21st century, should we embrace Jesus' teaching as a lifestyle? Or are the teachings still too difficult? Has human nature changed any in 2,000 years?

Dale Carnegie said that 95 percent of our thoughts are about ourselves. Jesus said the first condition of discipleship is to deny self, a core issue.

DENY SELF: FOCUS ON GOD.

Ponder Calvary.

Love God with all within us.

Trust God with all our heart.

Thank God daily for his grace and love.

DENY SELF: LOVE OTHERS AS OURSELVES.

Practice compassion.

Listen fully to others.

Turn the other cheek.

Live the Golden Rule.

DENY SELF: DENY EGO.

Walk humbly.

Concede opinions.

Forgive willingly.

Abhor self-righteousness.

In his letter to the Colossians, Paul writes: "For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell; and, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven."

God's foremost gift to mankind is Jesus, who was and is the best person ever to walk planet Earth.

Jesus said: "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden; and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

Dare we refuse such an offer?
