Fire that damaged Waianae Elementary classroom was intentionally set

Advertiser Staff

A fire that caused about $2,000 in damage to a classroom at Waianae Elementary School last night was intentionally set, Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig said today.

Seelig said a fire investigator’s findings have been passed to police.
The fire was reported shortly after 9 p.m. and was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
Seelig said an employee of the school helped contain the fire until firefighters arrived. Seelig said the person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
An initial report indicated the person had been taken to a hospital for treatment.
Seelig also said there was damage to the door of the school’s library.
