From a surfing violinist to a survey of female surf history, the second annual Surf Film Festival will feature a diverse look at the wave-riding community.
Four of the festival’s six films are highly anticipated Hawaiçi premieres: “Icons2,” “The Present,” “Musica Surfica” and “Dear and Yonder: Daring Stories of Ladies United by the Sea.”
“Icons2,” a film by Hawaiçi director Lance Arinaga, will open the festival at 7:30 p.m. July 10. Opening night will feature free Blue Moon and Coors Light beer and food from Da Spot.
Closing night also will feature free Primo beer.
The film selection was put together by museum film curator Gina Caruso and Chinatown Boardroom owners Eric and Jackie Walden.
The film festival will run July 10-24 in the Honolulu Academy of Arts’ Doris Duke Theatre.
