Round Top, Waahila Ridge park gates to be closed early on 4th of July

The state Department of Parks and Recreation said today that Puu Ualakaa (or Round Top) and Waahila Ridge state parks will be closed at 4 p.m. on July 4.

“We are closing these parks early to discourage use of fireworks, which is prohibited, and to protect the public and natural resources there,” DLNR chairperson Laura H. Thielen said in a statement.
The parks will resume normal hours July 5, opening at 7 a.m. and closing at 7:45 p.m.
DLNR also is reminding the public that consumption of alcohol and setting off fireworks are prohibited within all state parks, forest reserves, unencumbered lands and small boat harbors.
All vessels, including thrill craft and kayaks, must stay 300 yards away from land based and floating fireworks launch sites for their own safety, a DLNR news release said.
