Summer health, wellness program targets youths

Advertiser Staff

The Leading Edge Network, an after-school program, is offering a free summer health and wellness program for youth twice a week at the Kahuku Community Center.

The program, which runs Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 2:30 to 5 p.m., has partnered with the Ko'olauloa Community Health and Wellness Center.

As part of the program, Michael Gary, of the Ko'olauloa Community Health and Wellness Center, will give a free workshop, "How to Raise a Healthy Child," tomorrow from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Kahuku Community Center.

The Summer Health and Wellness Program focuses on improving the health literacy and self-management skills of youth within six risk areas: nutrition, physical fitness, substance abuse, mental and emotional health, injury prevention, and personal and consumer health.

While registration is over for the summer program, walk-ins for the remainder of the summer and the beginning of the school year are welcome.

The summer program, geared toward ages 12-17, runs through July 22. For more information, call program director Stephanie Ceus at 623-3402.
