Moped rider seriously hurt in Kaneohe collision

Advertiser Staff

A 15-year-old boy was seriously injured this morning when the moped he was riding collided with a Toyota Sedan in front of Benjamin Parker Elementary School.

The moped rider was traveling on Waikalua Road around 11:25 a.m. when he struck the left rear panel of the Toyota as it attempted to turn left into the school. The boy was ejected from the moped, slid on the ground, then collided with a parked Ford sedan.

The rider was taken to an area hospital in critical injuries, but was later upgraded to serious condition.

Neither the driver of the Toyota nor a child passenger were hurt.

Police said speed may have been a factor in the accident.
